On the hydrogen emission from the Type Ia supernova 2002ic

چکیده
The discovery of SN 2002ic and subsequent spectroscopic studies have led to the surprising finding that SN 2002ic is a Type Ia supernova with strong ejectacircumstellar interaction. Here we show that nearly 1 year after the explosion the supernova has become fainter overall, but the Hα emission has brightened and broadened dramatically compared to earlier observations. We have obtained spectropolarimetry data which show that the hydrogen-rich matter is highly aspherically distributed. These observations suggest that the supernova exploded inside a dense, clumpy, disk-like circumstellar environment. A single-degenerate model for the progenitor of the Type Ia supernova 2002ic
Supernova 2002ic was an atypical Type Ia supernova (SN Ia) with evidence for substantial amounts of hydrogen associated with the system. Contrary to previous claims, we show that its unusual properties can be understood within the framework of one of the most favoured progenitor models, the so-called supersoft channel. This requires that the donor star was initially relatively massive (∼ 3M⊙) a...

The recent detection of Hα emission in the supernova Type Ia SN 2002ic could be taken to mean that the elusive progenitor systems of Type Ia supernovae have finally been identified. At first glance, the observation appears to support a single-degenerate scenario, in which the white dwarf accretes from a normal companion. In this Letter we show that the opposite may be true, and the observations...
متن کاملSubaru Spectroscopy of the Interacting Type Ia Supernova SN 2002ic: Evidence of a Hydrogen-rich, Asymmetric Circumstellar Medium
Optical spectroscopy of the Type Ia supernova SN 2002ic obtained on 2003 June 27.6 UT, i.e., ∼ 222 rest-frame days after explosion, is presented. Strong H emission indicates an interaction between the expanding SN ejecta and an H-rich circumstellar medium (CSM). The spectrum of SN 2002ic resembles those of SNe 1997cy and 1999E. The three SNe also have similar luminosities, suggesting that they ...

We propose a model to account for the bolometric light curve, quasi-continuum and the Ca ii emission features of the peculiar type Ia supernova (SN) 2002ic, which exploded in a dense circumstellar envelope. The model suggests that the SN Ia had the maximum possible kinetic energy and that the ejecta expand in an approximately spherically symmetric (possibly clumpy) circumstellar environment. Th...
متن کاملin dense circumstellar gas
We propose a simple model for the bolometric light curve of type Ia supernova exploding in a dense circumstellar (CS) envelope to describe the light curves of supernovae 2002ic and 1997cy. The modeling shows that at the radius ∼ 7×10 15 cm the density of CS envelopes around both supernovae is similar. The mass of the CS envelope around SN 1997cy is close to 5 M ⊙ , while the characteristic time...
